Ontario Launches $10.9 Billion Energy Efficiency Programs to Save Money
Ontario Launches New Energy Efficiency Programs to Save You Money
Ontario has launched a new initiative to assist families and businesses in reducing energy costs through a series of energy efficiency programs. These programs are part of the province’s largest-ever $10.9 billion investment in energy efficiency, aimed at providing residents with opportunities to cut energy bills while contributing to the province’s sustainable energy future.
Starting January 28, 2025, the Home Renovation Savings Program will offer rebates up to 30% for home energy efficiency improvements. These include updates to windows, doors, insulation, heat pumps, smart thermostats, rooftop solar panels, and energy storage solutions. This program is expected to benefit homeowners across Ontario, especially with the growing demand for electricity.
The program comes as part of the Affordable Energy Act, which extends rebates for those who heat their homes with propane or oil, thus expanding its reach to more residents. In addition, businesses, especially small businesses like convenience stores and restaurants, will benefit from the expansion of the Peak Perks program, receiving financial incentives to adopt smart thermostats.
By 2036, Ontario expects these programs to reduce peak demand by 3,000 MW, helping to relieve pressure on the electrical grid and ensuring long-term savings. The initiative not only promises to save Ontarians money on their energy bills but also contributes to a greener, more energy-efficient future for the province.
This ambitious energy efficiency framework aligns with Ontario’s broader energy planning efforts, which include investments in nuclear power, new transmission infrastructure, and innovative clean energy projects. Through these actions, the government aims to meet the rapidly increasing demand for electricity while promoting economic growth.
